The short version
DataScrub is free, runs in your browser, and is provided as-is with no warranty. You keep full responsibility for your own data and for checking that the output is correct before you rely on it. Don't use the Service unlawfully or try to break it.
1. Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and BPD Unboxed ("we", "us") governing your use of the DataScrub website at datascrub.bpdunboxed.com (the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. The Service
DataScrub is a free, browser-based utility that cleans unformatted text: it strips hidden and control characters, normalises whitespace and punctuation, removes duplicate lines, detects delimiters, renders a preview table and exports CSV. All processing happens locally in your browser. No account is required. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without notice.
3. Your data and your responsibility
You retain all rights to the content you process. Because processing is entirely client-side, we never receive, store or control that content — and correspondingly we cannot recover it for you.
- Keep your originals. The Service transforms text destructively (for example by deleting characters and removing duplicate rows). Always work from a copy and keep the source file.
- Verify the output. Automated delimiter detection and character cleaning are heuristics. Before relying on a result — especially for financial, legal, medical or operational decisions — check that the columns split where you expect and that no needed characters were removed.
- You are responsible for lawfulness. You confirm you have the right to process the content you put into the Service, and that doing so complies with any applicable privacy, confidentiality or contractual obligations you are under.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or to process unlawfully obtained data;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to, interfere with, or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure;
- probe, scan or test the vulnerability of the Service without our written permission;
- use automated systems to place unreasonable load on the Service;
- interfere with, obscure or artificially inflate interaction with advertising shown on the Service;
- remove or alter proprietary notices, or present the Service as your own product.
5. Intellectual property
The Service, including its name, design, text and source code, is owned by us and protected by intellectual property law. These Terms grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive licence to use the Service for its intended purpose. The output you generate from your own content is yours.
6. Advertising and third-party links
The Service is supported by third-party advertising and may contain links to third-party sites. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party content, products or practices. Your dealings with advertisers are solely between you and them. See our Privacy Policy for how advertising cookies are handled.
7. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular cleaning or detection result will be correct, complete or suitable for your purpose.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, nor for any loss of data, loss of profits, loss of revenue, loss of goodwill or business interruption, arising out of or relating to your use of or inability to use the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to USD 50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain liabilities. In those jurisdictions, the exclusions and limitations above apply only to the extent permitted, and nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
9. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, demand, loss or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service in breach of these Terms or in violation of any law or third-party right.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. The "last updated" date above will change, and continued use of the Service after a revision constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not accept a change, stop using the Service.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without cause. Sections 3, 5, 7, 8 and 9 survive any termination.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of Benton County, Washington have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any competent court.
13. Severability and entire agreement
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
